The advertisements for teachers jobs by employer Teachers Service Commission is a move in the right direction. This is a recipe for hope especially during this pandemic where individual’s lives have been disoriented to a very great extent.

The teachers who were working under school Boards of Management have had it rough because of suspension of operations in schools. Their intern counterparts were somehow relieved because the government has been paying them inspite of working for less than three months.

Though the amount pay is nothing to write home about, at least they have something to hang onto unlike their BOM peers who might have been earning better but currently suffering a lot.

With their contract concluding in November, there is still a lot of uncertainty on the welfare of those who will not succeed in the ongoing recruitment. This will probably bring anxiety because the contract is non renewable thus rendering them jobless.

It is on this background that the commission should absorb all the intern teachers without subjecting them to any interview as they are probably the most qualified and committed group yet to be employed.

Subjecting interns to interviews against other teachers some of who rejected intern programme due to the meagre pay is an injustice. The most logical thing is to absorb all of them and then recruit other interns.

Let the Teachers Service Commission not create a problem by betraying those who committed and stood with them when the others were ridiculing them with their poor pay at their time of need.

It is a payback time to the intern teachers by the Teachers Service Commission.
