Dr Nancy Macharia is the current CEO of the Teachers Service Commission, TCS. She is serving her second and last term in office. She took over the mantle at the commission back in 2015 for her first term. Nancy was appointed as the ninth person as TSC boss and became the first woman ever to hold the position.
Age and Place of Birth
Nancy Macharia was born and raised in Central Kenya before later moving to Nairobi to pursuit her University education.
Ms Macharia graduated from Kenyatta University with a Bachelor of Education in English/Literature in 1987 before she started working at Kahuhia Girls’ Secondary in Murang’a, where she remained for five years until she was promoted to deputy head teacher at Kianderi Girls’ Secondary in the same county.
She later left the teaching arena to be a staffing officer, rising through the ranks until she was appointed CEO nearly three decades after she was employed.
In 2002 she pursued a Master’s degree in education at Bristol University in the UK, specialising in management of policy studies.

In 2014, Nancy was awarded the Order of Grand Warrior by President Uhuru Kenyatta due to her development contribution both inside and outside workplace.
She also took part in starring the national integrated data system for TSC to monitor learners and employees. During her first term, Nancy came up with the idea of teachers management information system that has solved the issue of ghost workers in teaching profession.
