The Teachers Service Commission has begun a process if publishing lists of teachers who will teach in junior secondary from next year. The lists have been forwarded to county commissioners before the affected teachers the their deployment letter. The link at the end provides full list.

Teachers who will be handling the upcoming junior high school classes will be undergo then a fresh 10-month training, Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha has announced.



This comes after the introduction of junior high school levels of education consisting of Grade 7 and Grade 8 under the new Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC).

CS Magoha, speaking during a visit to Kapsabet Girls High School, noted that the 10-month training will take place between the months of February and December.

Magoha also directed contractors building the new classes to be hands on and complete them within the provided time frame to allow for national examinations to be undertaken without any disruption. This, before March 7, 2022.

“We are targeting to build 6,400 CBC classrooms during the first phase which we shall complete on that stipulated time, and the second phase should start immediately after we finish marking exams which is about the first week of May,” said Magoha on Sunday.



He also disclosed that the three national examinations for Grade 6, Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) and Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) are ready for administration.

“For Grade 6, everything is already in place. The books have been printed and distributed, teachers have been trained and all other materials that are required are ready,” he stated.

The government had released Ksh 8 billion to the Ministry of Education through Treasury to assist in the construction of 10,000 classes in secondary schools to ease the transition to the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) program.

The program seeks to address the classroom deficit in the public secondary schools to allow for a smooth transition of CBC Grade 6 learners to Junior Secondary in January 2023.

This comes a time when TSC ittend to hire 5,000 teachers on permanent basis at the end of first term 2022. According to the sources within TSC, the commission is in rush to carry out the recruitment before the general elections which are scheduled to take place early August.

Majority of the teachers employed then will be deployed to secondary schools. Secondary schools are facing acute shortage of teachers next year due to double intake. In January 2022, form ones will be admitted to secondary as well as grade seven understand CBC admitted to junior secondary.
