There are now more than 740,000 confirmed cases of Corona virus across Africa as of 20th July, 2020. According to World Health Organization, the number could be more than the current figures. This could be so because of African countries’ incapability to test enough samples.
Some countries are also not willing to carry out tests and give the true picture of the situation in their country. The best example being Tanzania.
One thing though has been evident about the Corona virus situation in Africa. Countries that are most hit by the pandemic have strong political and social-economic connections with the European countries and Asia especially China where the virus was first reported. Their economy is also doing relatively better as compared to the rest.
As of May 13, at least every African country had recorded an infection the last being Lesotho. Up to date 11 countries have recorded more than 10,000 confirmed cases.
The Republic of South Africa is leading in Africa with more that 373,600 confirmed cases. While Ethiopia is the recent country to pass the 10,000 mark with 10,207 confirmed cases.
